TORONTO – triOS College is thrilled to celebrate an innovative partnership with Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village, supported by the Living Classroom grant, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in the education and healthcare sectors, offering students an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience directly within a Long-Term Care (LTC) home while completing their education within that same LTC.

Held at Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village, where the innovative Living Classroom model will be implemented, the ribbon-cutting ceremony was attended by Deputy Mayor Philips of the City of St. Catharines, Jim Bradley, Regional Chair – St. Catharines, Jeff Hurst, on behalf of MPP Jennie Stevens, Carolyn Triemstra of the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA), Chantel Lyons, Program Manager at March of Dimes Canada, along with members of Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village and triOS College families. Attendees were able to tour the facility and learn about how this initiative integrates education into a long-term care/retirement home, fostering workforce development in senior living and creating a culture of shared learning and mutual benefit among students, faculty, residents, visitors, and staff.

“Our partnership with Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village represents a significant step forward in how we prepare our students for successful careers in healthcare,” said triOS President Stuart Bentley. “This hands-on approach not only equips our students with essential skills and real-world experience but also fosters meaningful connections within the community.”

“We are thrilled to host the delivery of the PSW program offered by triOS College,” said Claudia D’Jesus, Manager of Human Resources and Volunteer/Student Services at Niagara Ina Grafton Gage Village. “This is an incredible opportunity, not only for the students but also for our residents and staff, who will become mentors for developing workforce-ready healthcare professionals. We look forward to creating a hub of excellence in senior care in partnership with triOS College.”

The Living Classroom initiative will offer Personal Support Worker (PSW) students a comprehensive learning environment, including theoretical lessons, practical labs, and hands-on placements. This ensures students are well-prepared for the workforce with the skills needed to deliver compassionate care. The program also offers immediate employment opportunities, fostering seamless transitions from education to practice, professional networking, and easier access to localized education.

The Living Classroom program is funded by the Government of Ontario and led by the Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA) through the Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (Ontario CLRI), in partnership with the Ontario Association of Adult and Continuing Education School Board Administrators (CESBA).
