4 Tips To Help Prepare You For Your First Day At College
July 15th, 2016 / By triOS College
Arrive Early
It is always a good idea to show up early on your first day at school or a new job. Unless you have visited the campus beforehand, you will need to learn where your classroom is as well as the geography of the building. Our staff is happy to help if you get lost, but you can save yourself some unnecessary anxiety by arriving 10 to 15 minutes early on day one.
Arriving early also gives you a better chance at getting the seat you would prefer. Whether you like to sit at the front or the back, showing up early makes it easier to get the spot where you are most comfortable.
What Do I Need to Bring?
This varies from class-to-class, but you will generally make use of computers we provide. If you like to also take notes, you can bring paper and pen. We have vending machines on the premises, but you are also more than welcome to bring your own food and beverages to consume during breaks. Feel free to contact the college in advance if you have any further questions about the specifics for your course.
Know Your Campus and the Area
Unlike many vocational institutes, you will more than likely spend all of your school time in the same classroom on your triOS campus. This certainly saves the hassle and rush of having to get from one room to another and even one building to another!
However, there are still the other aspects of your life you must consider. If your class starts at 9 AM, how long will it take you to either walk or commute to campus and still have time to take your seat and be ready? Are you familiar with your campus’ parking arrangements? Did you remember to bring your parking pass? Is there a restaurant or coffee shop nearby that you would like to patronize if you need to kill time waiting for your transportation?
Fitting School into the Rest of Your Life
If you have children or any other family commitments, have you taken the necessary steps to ensure you maintain them successfully? If you plan on working part-time while attending class, be sure to arrange your hours well in advance with the employer to avoid conflicts.
Most triOS classes require students to do some work outside of class time. This might be reading material in your textbook or possibly working on a project you will be presenting later in the course. Your instructor can give you a good idea of what this time commitment will be, but it is a good idea to set aside some time in your schedule beforehand.
Starting your course on the right foot will help to alleviate any anxiety you might experience and boost your confidence. Planning is the first step on the road to academic and employment success!
